“Tamaulipas has cities which are an ideal destination for future Chinese investments,” Asian businessmen said while visiting the State together with the ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Qiu Xiaoqi.


In a meeting held with the export maquila industry – at the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas – the competitive advantages that distinguish Tamaulipas were presented to the ambassador or the People’s Republic of China and a delegation of businessmen of the Asian country.


The meeting was led by the governor of the State of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier Garcia Cabeza de Vaca, who was accompanied by the leader of the office from the Ministry of Economic Development in the State, Jesus Villarreal Cantu; as well as by the heads of the Maquilas Association and Manufacturing of Reynosa, Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo respectively: Enrique Castro Septien, Rolando Gonzalez Barron and Guillermo Fernandez de Jauregui.


Qiu Xiaoqi, ambassador of the People's Republic of China, said that the first impression he had of this State is that it has good nature conditions, in addition of a good location, underlining that the border crossings are the most important in the entire border of Mexico and the United States, facilitating the development of Tamaulipas’s economy, said that in talks with Chinese businessmen before this trip, they showed their interest in taking advantage of the natural conditions of Tamaulipas.


He also highlighted that Tamaulipas has a favorable logistics location, by the Gulf of Mexico’s coast, and from the Pacific.  This manner the eastern part of the United States can easily can be reached by crossing the Northern part of Mexico, saving thus in transportation and mobility costs; therefore it is necessary to use such advantages.


Rolando Gonzalez Barron, president of the Maquila Association in Matamoros, said that the industrial community of Reynosa-Matamoros-Nuevo Laredo was pleased of receiving the delegation of representatives from the People's Republic of China to know the competitive advantages of this border.


Enrique Castro, president of Index Reynosa, said that what they are doing is to expand – on a base they already have – to new customers, since the positioning and recognition they have worldwide is that the State has first world production centers and that they are basically based on costs reduction and increase in productivity which is what Asians are interested in aiming to use the model they already know as China has had the model of the maquila and export manufacturing industry for 30 years.


On the other hand, Guillermo Fernandez de Jauregui, president of Index Nuevo Laredo, said that China obviously has great potential, it is a world power and it is important for Mexico – in addition of the relationship with the United States – to intensify their relations with other countries.


Highlighting the advantages of Tamaulipas

Some Asian businessmen underlined their intervention with the export industry of Tamaulipas, the excellent advantages that Matamoros as well as Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo have.  These cities are an ideal destination for future Chinese investments.  The group of investors was integrated by directives of companies from the sectors of technologies, oil, energy, port engineering, video surveillance, etc. who showed their interest in exploring the market and bring technology to Mexico.
