INFASA: “We believe in Mexican workforce”
Founded 65 years ago in the State of Florida in the United Sates; at the beginning INFASA dedicated to the production of mosquito net for windows, later they entered in the manufacture of vents, product that until today is manufactured in the plant located in Reynosa, Tam.
In 1985, when they started in Reynosa, the production was centered in components for registries; it was 18 years ago that this production stopped to start the elaboration of the end product.
INFASA has in its workforce 245 employees, many of them with a wide history in the company. Regarding the infrastructure of the plant it is complete; it includes 125,000 square feet of building and 25,000 square feet in offices.
Three decades of evolution in Reynosa
Mike Myers, general manager at Metal Industries of INFASA Plant.
At a corporate level the company is celebrating in 2017 its 70th Anniversary, the company in Reynosa celebrated in 2016 its first 30 years of history (today it is almost celebrating its 32nd.) This company is a manufacture company specialized in air diffusor products for air conditioning and heating systems.
The INFASA plant, which is located at Del Norte Industrial Park, manufactures diffusors, vents, all parts that work to direct air, in homes, condominiums, buildings, hotels, hospitals, shopping malls and auditoriums.
“After these first 32 years in Reynosa, I imagine that this means that since its beginning and settling in this city, the company already believed in manufacture, in the workforce, in Mexican employees; and this means, and I have said this in behalf of the industry in general, that the industry and specially Metal Industries and their INFASA Plant, we believe in Mexico, and we believe in Mexican employees and that is why we are here; because of the good workforce and the good workers that exist in Mexico which has given us good results,” highlighted Mike Myers general manager of Metal Industries of INFASA Plant in Reynosa.
Even though INFASA in Reynosa is not as big company as other giants worldwide, Metal Industries believes in Mexico, believes in Tamaulipas and in Reynosa.
Mainly, and in order to comply the laws of the maquila Industry for the production sent abroad, being the United States the country that receives about 98 %, although there are times when they have works for countries such as Asia and Arabia.
“Previously the maquila Industry had bad reputation, that they came and go and that they did not invest in the country. After 32 years I want to say this is not true, ‘we are not mineworkers that arrive, dg and go away’, we are sowers; we arrive, invest, take care of our place, because we know that we are not going anywhere, even our percentages are increasing in Reynosa and in Mexico. We are happy of being here, we have been in the good and bad times, but INFASA continues to be here, because we believe in Reynosa, in Tamaulipas and in Mexico.”
How they do it is what they do
The process implies that the order arrives and we perform the exact order, the order is sent to the manufacture, and when we built a building or a store and they ask us for pieces of several models and sizes, it is done exactly as the client asks.
Everything starts at the department where orders are received from clients.
In an interesting tour by the company’s facilities, Mike Myers showed the departments that integrate the INFASA plant. One of the departments is where they manufacture parts and assembly the products, such as the ‘dampers’ department which is where the air is regulated which goes behind the registries and vents they manufacture.
In INFASA all their products are manufactured previous order, therefore they do not have a stock or inventory area, thus each order is unique and particular, making exactly what the client is asking for on time and specifications.
The paint department, is another area that is integrated to this company, the system allows the product to be completed cleaned, going through an icold tank and he says is that an energy load is placed in the registry and an opposite load in the pain, through the amperes is indicated how much paint is required on each product; this a system that has 99.9 % of usefulness, it does not registers leaks towards the environment, since all the paint remains in the product.
The raw material arrives to the warehouse, and then goes through the press department where it is cut according to the form and tests are made. Afterwards it goes through the assembly process and when it is ready it is taken to the paint department, packaged and sent to the client.
Although it is a process that seems simple, it requires high precision in order to have a perfect product according to client’s specifications.
We have continued to grow in these recent years, since they continue sending more production lines and more business percentages. “In this 12 years I have had the opportunity of working at this company, I have seen the numbers we have had and each year – from the last two or three years - , the increase percentage has been greater than 5 % to 10 %. With our people; our engineers, supervisors and employees, we have been able to fulfill the goals the corporate have send us,” said Mr. Myers.
After 32 years, we know that Reynosa’s workforce is excellent, they have two factories from the division in the United States, and there is a difference regarding the amount of product sent from the plant in Reynosa, which sends 100 % that enters to Metal Industries; 40 % is sent to INFASA. “Metal Industries believes in our employees who are from INFASA,” said Mayers.
