The industrial and of services company in automation, as well as of technology, Mequimsa is dedicated to the manufacture of metallic structures for materials management inside production lines, mainly in the automotive sector.
“We manufacture different types of structures because there are different parts being transported within the production lines, therefore there are approximately 70 products lines, which add between 5,000 to 7,000 units manufactured on average per year,” said Oscar Gonzalez Alcantara, operations director of Mequimsa.
After its foundation in 1994 in Toluca, Mexico, they decided to move to Aguascalientes in 2012, aiming to promote the State and serve directly to its customers.
Currently, the industrial building occupies 1,480 square meters and its human capital is integrated by 80 collaborators approximately, therefore directives have underlined that the Mexican workforce is good and of quick learning; however, more preparation and investment is needed to increase their labor culture, technical and professional.
The director of operations added that fortunately and as support policy for the entity’s economy, 90 percent of the supplies are from the state of Aguascalientes.
Likewise, he said that their main customers are Jatco, plant 1 and plant 2; Nissan A1 and A2, and Compas.
Oscar Gonzalez Alcantara said that since Mequimsa works together with Japanese companies, they have had a great cost reduction, since previously they made a great investment when importing metallic structures from Japan.
The plant has had recognitions from the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDEC, by its Spanish initials) for being a company interested in continuous improvement methodologies, and on the other hand the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT, by its Spanish initials,) they also obtained a recognition as a company directed to seek the solution of problems, to improve and increase competitiveness.
On the other hand, being certified with ISO 9001-2015 has given them benefits in aligning issues of their production processes in machining, cutting, bending, welding, assembly, paint and logistics.
After the evolution of Industry 4.0, the company from Aguascalientes has been involved with these changes, since they have CNC machines, a Metronic machine of the latest technology, and what they intent is to also automate their metal cutting processes, of bending and welding, through a robot that can weld certain specific points.
For this 2019, they have a growth and expansion project in mind, aimed to be suppliers of the Bajio region.
“The market is demanding us a better response capability, which obligate us to think about expanding, where we can have more capability to respond our customers, and mainly for the project we have of entering the Automotive Cluster Bajio,” ended Oscar Gonzalez Alcantara.
