The automotive company Yokohama Industries America de Mexico settled their first plant in the country on May 7th 2015, Aguascalientes was the venue of this factory dedicated to assembly and produce air conditioner lines for automobiles of Chrysler and Nissan brands.

 

The company stands out globally in such manner that it has had good results in the country and other countries, therefore in February 2018 they were awarded for their performance in continuous improvement in Japan where the plant succeeded in second place worldwide within Yokohama business.

 

With a facility of more than 9,000 square meters, their production process goes through the areas of cutting, shaping, brazing welding and finally, arrives to the assembly line to give that finish touch to pieces according to shaping and route they have to reach an engine, depending on the car model in which they undertake a leakage test with helium, where they prove they are in excellent quality and ready to be settled.

 

For Jose Luis Briones, production manager, Mexican workforce is highly qualified and disciplined, since it is committed, and they are always looking for continuous improvement, that is why they have 233 employees, 30 people are ‘salarie’ or of trust, 43 indirect ones and the rest is production personnel.

 

They are Tier 1 suppliers, since they supply assemblers in the country and they export their products, their main customers are Chrysler and Nissan, on the other hand, their suppliers’ base is located in 60 % in the United States, a 20 % in Mexico and another 20 % in Asia, mainly in China and Korea.

 

“Everything we are producing for Chrysler, they produce it and export to the North American market, in case of Nissan Plant A1 we sell to them and they in turn export to the United States and South American markets,” said Jose Octavio Diaz Torres, manager of the materials area of Yokohama Industries America de Mexico.

 

For this 2019 they have a project on the way which goes together with Nissan assembler, therefore, it is planned to increase three times the production volume, likewise, they are in process of being certified by the end of October this year, in the standard IATF-16949 which is a requirement of their customers and by the beginning of August2019 they will have the audit for such certification.

 

“We in Yokohama are opened to new challenges, we received some new projects, which we have had the satisfaction of winning, we are about to launch new vehicles, new demand, we triplicated the production with one customer and we are willing to continue going forward,” ended Humberto Bernal Muro, plant manager of Yokohama Industries America de Mexico.
