KIA will increase its production 150 % in Nuevo Leon

Kia Motors de Mexico estimates to increase its production 150 % at the Pesqueria plant, in Nuevo Leon, said the general director of the automotive company, Horacio Chavez Reza.

The manager emphasized that the Korean assembler, which last June completed a year of production in the country, already manufactures two models in the national territory: Forte and Rio, in sedan and hatchback versions each.

After the first year of operations the plant produced 107,000 units of Forte, said Chavez Reza, Kia Motors de Mexico introduced the manufacture of Rio, reason why it is estimated to produce 250,000 units by the end of this year.

“The first year the plant had an expectation of making 100,000 units, but they reached 107,000 Forte vehicles in both versions. And so far in 2017 we have 92,000 of the two Forte versions, as well as 30,000 of Rio in both versions.”

Therefore, he explained, the plan for 2017 is to reach 250,000 units, of which 85 % will be for export and 15 % for the domestic market.

REST HEAD: MEXICO, AN EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW

Kia Motors Mexico, ranked sixth in importance for the corporate among the 180 nations where the brand is marketed and expects to reach fifth place in 2018 with the sale of 100,000 units annually in the national territory and the manufacture of 400 thousand vehicles.

For Kia Motors Mexico, the objectives are to occupy the first place of penetration in the market and to exceed the demand in the national and export markets, for which the president of sales of Kia Motors Mexico, Tae Jin Park, did not discard new investments.

According to the manager, the growth of the brand in Mexico is surprising even for Korea, so the business model implemented in the country is studied by the United States, Canada and India.

The Kia Motors Mexico portfolio currently consists of Forte and Rio, made in Mexico, in addition to Optima, Sorento, Soul, Sportage, the hybrid Niro and soon the luxury sports Stinger will reach national territory.

REST HEAD: RECEIVE AUTO AWARD MADE IN MEXICO

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS,) awarded the Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP +) award to the KIA Forte model that is manufactured in Mexico by achieving the highest possible ratings in the tests it was subjected to.

This safety award comes along with its appointment as the 2017 compact sedan rated best in the JD Power Initial Quality Study (IQS,) which measures consumer satisfaction and fewer problems during the early nineties days after the original purchase of the vehicles, KIA Motors Mexico reported in a statement.

In order to qualify as TSP + (Top Safety Pick Plus,) the IIHS parameters require that each of the vehicles that are submitted obtain the “Good” rating in the different tests of frontal slight collision, moderate frontal collision, lateral impact, force and resistance of the ceiling, headers and seats and a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating on the light system tests.

In the words of Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning for the South Korean company, “KIA Forte is one of our most popular and best-selling vehicles, and the distinction is a confirmation of the level of priority we give to safety for our customers and the reason why it remains one of the big favorites in the segment of compact sedans.”

Sedan Forte is manufactured at the facilities of the KIA Motors plant in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, what makes it the first vehicle manufactured in the second plant of the brand in North America.
