Saint-Gobain Glass opened a new Coater Jumbo, aiming to serve the increasing demand of the national and international market and to substitute coated glass imports.

With an investment of 35 million dollars and the generation of more than 2,000 direct jobs, this Coater will produce a new coated glass line of dimensions larger than 6 meters long, with thermal insulation and solar control, which will reduce heat gains per direct solar radiation, thus generating significant economies in energy consumption in air conditioning use, ventilation and artificial lighting.  Being the first one of its kind in Mexico and the largest and modern in the entire Latin America.

Juan Jose Vilatela, general director of Saint Gobain Glass Mexico, said that more than 20 years ago the group began the production of flat glass in the state of Morelos with an initial investment of 130 million dollars for the installation of a plant capable of manufacturing 15 million m2; since then, investments in the state have contributed to reach an amount higher than 400 million dollars.

“With this investment program, flat glass production in 2018 exceeded 40 million m2, which locates the state of Morelos as national leader in flat glass manufacturing,” said Juan Jose.

Meanwhile, Dominique Azam, CEO of Saint-Gobain in Mexico, said that with the fulfillment of these investment projects, the company confirms its confidence in Mexico, encouraging local products which additionally of providing comfort, are environmentally responsible.

Aiming to fulfill a correct operation of the new production line, an extensive training program for researchers, employees and operators was held, which included formation in different countries such as: Germany, France, India, Brazil, among others; with a duration, sometimes, of more than one year.

The products that will be manufactured are directed to answer the needs from different economic sectors such as the automotive, construction, commercial refrigeration and home appliances, serving the national as well as the United States, Canada and Latin American markets.

Juan Jose Vilatela, thanked their customers’ trust, “as thanks to them we have reached the leadership of the glass market, and I am convinced that if we continue working this way, we will achieve an even more promising future for all,” he said.
